JRD Tata-visionary

Bharat Ratna Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata(Jeh) was truly one of the greatest leaders of all times! He was the pioneer of the aviation, cement, textiles, transportation, steel, power and other infrastructure industries in India. Lacking formal education but gifted with a great vision of a prosperous, united, strong and self-reliant India he set about the task with a single-minded zeal. His greatest asset was his humility and man-management. He firmly believed that India's greatest strength was its vast human resource and if properly harnessed it could make India a great nation within a short span. He also strongly emphasised on a strong value system and team work..His objective was creation of wealth by honest means.
He was disgusted with the burueaucratic controls and endless redtape prevalent in India. He was always at odds with the government of the day but refused to bypass the law by dishonest means as many other industrialists did to become wealthy in quick time.
Born of a mixed parentage, a French Mother and a Parsi father he combined the best of both Indian and Western values. He admired the West for its discipline, sense of honour, science and character and the East for its tolerance, compassion, decency and other human values. A strong believer in charity for the poor and the under-privileged under his guidance the Tata group of companies donated lavishly to alleviating poverty, education, scientific research and medicine.
Unfortunately Indians today have lost sight of their purpose and have become dazzled with the false glitter of Western culture. They must understand that blindly imitating the West will only lead to disaster, corruption and other related problems. If we are to become a great nation our youth must emulate the values which JRD symbolised!
